On January 24, 2009, several of the families from our first get-together met to hear Molly Carlson speak. Molly is an 19 year old girl who was born with a complete cleft lip and palate. She has had 19 surgeries which were provided through the Shriners' network. In addition to being a full time college student, Molly travels the US speaking about her experiences in a variety of forums, most notably speaking at fundraising events for the Shriners. Molly was gracious enough to come speak at our small gathering, and provided some wonderful insight to the parents in our group. We learned more about our children's perspectives, of their challenges yet to come, and most importantly, we were reassured by Molly's upbeat and positive outlook on her life's story.
